Maths Curriculum

At St Peter and St Paul CE Primary School we endeavour to teach our children a rich and progressive mathematics curriculum.  It has been devised so that it is accessible to all and maximises development of every child's ability and academic achievement.  We deliver daily lessons that are creative and engaging making relevant connections across mathematical ideas to develop fluency, mathematical reasoning and competence in solving increasingly sophisticated problems.  Our aim is for children to leave as confident, skilled and resilient mathematicians; who understand that mathematics is a fundamental part of everyday life and the world we live in.  We provide children with real life learning experiences and opportunities to ensure that they are confident to deal with the challenges the world presents.  We want our children to develop a healthy and enthusiastic attitude towards mathematics with a deep understanding that will stay with them for life and serve them in their future.

  • To embrace the value of learning from mistakes.
  • The ability to reason, generalise and make sense of solutions.
  • Fluency in performing written and mental calculations and mathematical techniques.
