Physical Education
Our Physical Education curriculum aims to ensure all our children:
- develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- are physically active for sustained periods of time both within the PE curriculum and beyond
- engage in competitive sports and activities
- lead healthy active lives
- build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
In Key Stage 1 the children follow a multi-skills curriculum to develop fundemental movement skills and become increasingly competent and confident. They engage in competitive activities both against themselves and others. Children are taught to:
- master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination.
- participate in team games developing simple tactics for attacking and defending
- perform dances using simple movement patterns.
In Key Stage 2 there is more focus on communicating, collaborating and competing with each other learning how to evaluate and recognise their own success. Sports become more sport-specific. Our spiral curriculum ensures depth of knowledge and skill progression.
In line with government recommendations of an hour daily activity, our children complete a minimum of two hours curriculum PE per week and in addition, use our school running track, have organised playtime activities, physically active lessons and pre-school and after school clubs.
Sports Grant
The Sports Grant is used to enrich our PE curriculum, following the five indictors, to ensure there is a sustainable benefit for all children. We have an outstanding sports coach, who works alongside teachers in PE lessons.

School Games Mark
We have achieved the 'Platinum Sports Mark' - the highest standard in this award. Our achievement of the 'Sports Mark' for many years is testament to the high value we place on physical education and to the standards our children reach both within the curriculum and competitive sport.
We have many links with sporting partners including Sussex County Cricket, Hastings and Bexhill RFC, Sama Karate, Upgrade Martial Arts, Little Common FC, Diana Freedman School of Performing Arts and ESPPA. We use these partners to work with the children in school and to signpost identified children.
Active School of the Year Award
As a whole school community, we are thoroughly delighted and very proud to have been selected as the Sussex Active School of the Year winner. Out of over 500 schools, we have been recognised as outstanding in our provision for active learning. At the awards ceremony in Brighton we were praised for our commitment to physical education, active lessons and playtimes, as well as our wide range of sporting opportunities. It was noted that this ethos underpins happy and healthy children in our school.
Clubs & Competitions
We offer an extensive range of after school sports clubs for all children as well as morning training sessions.
Our focus on high quality sport has led us to succeed in many level two and three competitions.
