Science

At St Peter and St Paul, our science curriculum is designed to inspire and nurture children's natural curiosity about the world around them. Science is an integral part of everyday life and is closely linked to many other subjects, including maths, computing, and English.

We take a themed approach to science, where knowledge and key skills are revisited and built upon over time. Our lessons are hands-on and exploratory, encouraging children to ask questions, investigate, and solve problems in ways that make learning engaging and memorable. All science teaching follows the National Curriculum and includes the key disciplines of biology, chemistry, and physics.

Our extensive school grounds provide valuable opportunities for outdoor learning and scientific enquiry, such as growing plants, trees, and vegetables in our school garden.

We have established strong links with our local secondary school, giving children access to additional resources and opportunities to experience science lessons in fully equipped laboratories.

In addition, we also hold an annual Science Week where the usual curriculum is suspended and science becomes the focus for the week. This is aligned with British Science Week and incorporates its annual theme. During this time, we make meaningful links with other areas of the curriculum to enrich children's learning experiences.

The impact of our science curriculum is evident in the high levels of attainment and progress our children achieve. They leave us with a deep understanding of scientific concepts, knowledge, and enquiry skills.

We are proud to hold the Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM), which recognises our commitment to high-quality science teaching and supports us in continuously developing and evaluating our curriculum.
